Our story

The story of Rose’s Restaurant & Catering is deeply rooted in family and tradition. The building that now houses the restaurant was initially built by Rose’s husband, Pól Poulsen father, and his brother, and his brother as a gathering place for their family to attend Christian services and Sunday meals. After Pól’s uncle, Poul Johannus, passed away in 2018, Rose purchased the building in early 2019. With Pól’s craftsmanship and Rose’s vision, it was transformed into a cozy café that opened to the public on July 6, 2019.
What began as Rose’s Café quickly evolved into a full-fledged restaurant after customers encouraged a name change to reflect the quality and variety of the menu. Despite initial doubts about opening a restaurant in the small, lesserknown village of Ljósá, Rose’s quickly became a success story — welcoming thousands of guests from across the globe. Today, it stands as a four-time TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award winner (2022–2025), a symbol of dedication, passion, and community spirit.
